Meet Our Spuds:
NCS (Net Control Stations)
Greetings! from an early teen ham in 1963 as WN0FLD, then WA0FLD.
In Vietnam Era was KR6LP/AB2LP and worked Army MARS from AB9USA and AB2USA.
My daughter is Denise, N7LXB and I am very proud of her… she got her General with CW at 11. She can build a quad in the dark!
My best friends are Jerry Bustin, KR7KZ and his family in Kennewick, WA who I met after Jerry’s chopper fell to the ground in Vietnam. No person has been a friend like Jerry!
Phone (503) 880 6996
My interests are: Horseback riding (training now and will be in KC’s American Royal in Decembr), Sea Kayaking, art (drawing and painting), quad helicopter with GoPro, music (Jazz and rock)…I play drums and am learning the tenor sax, mountain biking, hiking, cross-country skiing and ham radio. My main ham radio interests now are QRP, IRLP, EchoLink and CW.
I have moved to Lakewood, Pennsylvania and live in the Poconos in extreme NE Pennsylvania. I was a Quality Engineer at FLIR Systems, Inc. in the Portland area and had to retire early.
My station now is of vintage gear: Collins 32S-3, 75S-3 with 312B-4 (S Line), KWM2-A, 312B-5 VFO, 30L-1 Amp with a Drake MN-2000 tuner. I also use an IC7100 for mobile and an IC7300. I use an Love it and the Heil Gold Elite microphone that Jerry gave me.

Net Manager For Cycle 1 Western Mass Traffic Net
I started in radio about 30 years ago with a short wave where I used to listen to AM broadcasts and ham radio. I sent reports and got a lot of QSL cards back from both AM and ham. I added a cb radio to my shack and was involved with Albany County React as I assisted truckers with traffic reports and helped stranded motorists. There were no cell phones then, life took me in other directions and I had to give up the hobby for way too long.
I now have a blog here http://kd2nsa.org/
I Am the Assistant Emergency Corrdinator for Albany County Ares .
I got my Amateur License finally on Sept. 25th, 2015 after returning to the hobby in May of 2015. I recently upgraded to General Class.
I am also licensed in gmrs .
I am last active react on ch 19 with severe weather reports, accidents and help for the occasional stranded motorist.

Tranceivers: Kenwood TS-590S, ICOM IC-7300
Linear Amplifier: Elecraft KPA500
Antennas:
a) 75m/40m fan dipole with the ends of the 75m section about 25 feet above the ground and the ends of the 40m section about 20 feet above the ground. Due to my narrow yard the 75m section has to take a 90 degree turn to yield a configuration that resembles a horizontal “U”. The antenna is fed via coax and a 1:1 current balun at the center of the fan dipole. Tuned with rig’s tuner or with Palstar AT-500.
b) Zero-Five GP6-20 Ground Plane Vertical, tuned with an LDG RT-600 tuner at the base of the antenna; the base of the antenna (and the counterpoises) are about 10 feet above ground. It tunes well on the 20m through 6m bands; it will tune on 80m and 40m, but doesn’t perform well there.
Digital modes via FLDIGI on Mac OSX 10.12.6 on a 2012 vintage MacBook Pro.
Status: Retired, licensed since 2009 (original call was KC2WFF)

I think like a lot of people who are involved in this hobby (service) I started in the early 70’s in CB radio. With all the traveling I was doing my father bought me my first mobile radio. I had one of the first 11 meter base stations in the area. I was involved with the local clubs and was getting to know some Ham operators in the area when my life and career took different directions. Getting married, having children and doing extensive traveling for my job took me away from everything assocaited with radio from the early 80’s till just a few years ago.
I forced an end to the traveling and decided to get back into the hobby. I took the exams and received my Ham license and here I am, now a General and working towards the next step.
Along with my Yaesu FT-450D I have added a Yaesu FT-991A and a Icom-7300, with a couple end fed wires. Setting myself up for when I retire in a couple years. Working out what I can do with limited space to work in. That’s the fun part of this hobby and the challenge.
Of course, I am a memeber of ARRL, a lifetime member to East Coast Amateur Radio Service, (E.C.A.R.S).
Current radio configuration: Icom-7300 HF Transceiver, Icom SM-50 Microphone, Ameritron AL-811H, Low Pass Filter to a MyAntenna EFHW-8010 2K – End Fed Wire up 60 feet.
I certainly have fun on the radio and I also have the honor of being one of the hosts of the Maine Potato Net. You can see the schedule below for all the particulars of the Maine Potato Net.

Current Rigs:ICOM IC-7851, YAESU FT-991a, CS800d VHF/UHF DMR X2, Alinco dr635 VHF/UHF, RFinder B1, Anytone AT578 Mobile, Anytone AT878 Portable, Anytone AT868 Portable, XPR6550 VHF, XPR7550 UHF, 24/7 Generator/UPS Backup, 100′ Antenna tower with Mosley 67B Pro beam below a 17′ V/U Vertical, as well as a 2 270′ OCFD’s for 80m/6M
